As I mentioned in my last review, I immediately went back to the library to pick up the second book in Han’s “To All the Boys Series”: “P.S. I still love you”, and to be honest I have some mixed feelings about this book.

While, to my delight, the story was filled with an abundance of juicy drama, gossip, and situations specifically designed to give the reader strong second-hand embarrassment (which I must admit, I greatly enjoyed), this book felt immature and played into many teenage cliches and stereotypes – some of the arguments that broke out between our main characters, Lara Jean and Peter could only be described as nonsensical and, to put it bluntly, cringeworthy. Certain interactions just did not feel genuine or realistic in the slightest.

Plot-wise, I’d say this book is more intricate than it’s original predecessor. While still focusing on one primary conflict: which is the tension in Lara Jean and Peter’s relationship, and the interference of Genevieve (This girl’s name is so weird by the way! I don’t know how to pronounce it in my head!), there were several other issues that propped up (like the hot-tub video, the girls’ setting up a dating profile for their dad, the game of “Assassins”, the break-up, to mention a few) that kept the plot flowing and wildly entertaining.

I really did enjoy the scenes at the Resident Home, I guess these resonated with me because I quite like old people. Also the minor plot twist that John ended up being Stormy’s grandson is quite endearing in my opinion. (SO FAR: He’s my favourite). Another scene that gets an honourable mention: Kitty getting her puppy Jamie-Fox Pickle.

I also appreciate the way Han experiments with different friendship dynamics, and the exploration of the theme of mother figures is recurring and interesting. I must emphasise again that this series is no literary masterpiece, however, does not fail to deliver surface-level amusement, which is really all I was looking for. 😊

Love,

Ann ❤️
