'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' might just be my favourite book to date. I've spent the last couple of months in a rather uncomfortable reading slump, but this book genuinely got me excited to read and I found myself reaching for the kindle with the same excitement I'd typically reserve for a good old doom scroll.
This book had been popular on TikTok a couple years ago, so I suppose yes, I am hopping onto the trend a little late. The way I made the decision to start this book was a bit silly; I asked ChatGPT "recommend books to get me out of a reading slump". TSHOEH was at the top of the list, and it definitely did the trick ☺️
The chapters are light and fast-paced, literally feels like listening to a good friend 'spilling the tea'. And as a person who is especially keen on human nature I'm quite pleased that this story shows clearly that human beings are never wholly 'good' or 'bad' in a clear cut sense, but there are so many shades of nuance mixed between the two terms. The little cut-scenes in between Evelyn's story-telling create a nice pause every now and then and ensure the story never really gets boring. This also involved two major plot twists, both of which I enjoyed greatly.
Would definitely recommend! ✨
