Now, I rarely give books a low rating, so this is quite out of character for me. But this was ... stale, to say the least, and even that's being generous.
To be fair I'm not quite sure why I even chose the book in the first place - maybe I was just desperate to find something to read on holiday - since I've never quite resonated with John Green's writing style.
Something feels off putting, rigid, lacking a certain soul. The dialogue, and the characters' interactions feel very artificial and unnatural.
The book seems to be pushing a very evidently determinsitic propaganda which is honestly very depressive, what whit the constant talk of death, how we have no control over our own lives, how we are just useless colonies of bacteria in the hands of some unknown puppeteer. By no means am I a huge believer in total free-will, but this felt a tad overkill.
I can't understand what the relationship between Aza and Davis was supposed to be? The ending was complete unsatisfactory and felt hugely under developed.
Bland :(
